The District Rotary Foundation

The Founder of the Rotary Foundation The District Foundation Chair
1917 RI President Arch C. Klumph PDG Anita Papich
The idea was started in 1917 by RI President Arch C. Klumph when he said “it seems eminently proper that we should accept endowments for the purpose of doing good in the world”. In 1928, when the endowment fund had grown to more than US $5,000, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International. In 1947, upon the death of Paul Harris, a new era opened for The Rotary Foundation as memorial gifts poured in to honor the founder of Rotary.
The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. The Foundation’s Humanitarian Programs fund International Rotary Club and District projects to improve the quality of life, providing health care, clean water, food, education, and other essential needs primarily in the developing world.
